Q(ee)R Codes – New Boundaries BXL 1000 presents a guided walk with Loes Jacobs (nadine), QoffHearts and Anna Raimondo as part of Slow Ways Weekend in Brussels.
Q(ee)R Codes – New Boundaries BXL 1000 is a participatory sound art project in Brussels’ public space, initiated by Anna Raimondo and part of the City of Brussels’ Public Art Collection.
How does Brussels’ public space reflect our gender assignments and positions? Under what conditions, and for what reasons, is a space perceived as safe or hostile by cis women, trans, queer and non-binary people? Between strategies of visibility and invisibility, what are our everyday gestures of resistance and emancipation in the streets and in relation to others?
QoffHearts (they/them) is a shapeshifter and artist who has spent much of their artistic life in Brussels. After a lifetime of having their gender interpreted by others, they turned to drag king performance and gender contortion to reclaim control over that gaze. For this walk, they bring their perspective to the Yser neighbourhood — a place where desire, poverty, rejection and the ambitions of the newly wealthy intersect, making questions of who belongs, who can move through the space, and who can be seen impossible to ignore.
