Doctorate in Arts and Art Sciences

Entering the Doctorate in Arts and Art Sciences allows for conducting high-level theoretical research alongside artistic practice, culminating in a thesis.

Presentation

The Doctorate in Arts and Art Sciences is organized by the University in collaboration with a School of Fine Arts. It consists of the development and presentation of an artistic and theoretical work conducted in close correlation.

The goal of the Doctorate in Arts and Art Sciences is to carry out a high-level approach in the field of arts while engaging in theoretical research, leading to a thesis. To this end, doctoral students, artists, and academics create the conditions for a shared work and research space.

The Doctoral Thesis in Arts and Art Sciences consists of two parts, which are examined and evaluated together as a whole, and which successfully realize an original and personal project:

  • The artistic part involves the development and presentation of a high-level artwork, enriched by theoretical research.
  • The written theoretical part is an original research work, offering a critical reflection and in-depth analysis in interaction with the artistic work of the doctoral student.
Program

The doctoral training program consists of 60 credits, which are distributed across seminars, conferences, exhibitions, publications, etc. A support committee meets annually to review the progress of the project.
